Conditions of Membership

When you first apply to become a member of Stamford Golf Club you will meet the current Captain and other officials of the Club. The reason for this is to impress upon you the importance of conducting yourself in a manner befitting membership of Stamford Golf Club in order that you become a custodian of our traditions and set an example to the people who visit or otherwise partake in our life at Stamford. As a community sport club, we are opening our facilities more and more to guests, visitors and private functions. The club require of such people their co-operation in the acceptance of our standards of behaviour and dress, which would be wasted if our example was not exemplary. Back to Top

Club Etiquette

Members are required to address the Captain, President and the Vice-Captain by their titles, not their names during their term of office.

Stamford is a members club, as such you are responsible for ensuring that your guests pay the appropriate green fees and both yourselves and your guests conform to all Club traditions, standards of dress and behaviour either in the Clubhouse or on the course.

All golf playing members are required to insure themselves against third party liability. This can usually be done by addition to your household insurance or by taking out a special golfers policy to cover you more extensively.

Five day members may play golf from Monday to Friday(including Bank Holidays) and friendly golf at weekends(when competitions are not in progress) on payment of green fees, reduced if playing with a full member. Tee availability should be checked with the Golf Shop(01457 832126). The Clubhouse is available for your use without restriction.
Handicap holders may play in the Summer Wednesday Competition including the three 18 hole qualifying comps and Monday and Friday bank holiday competitions.

Your partner must be a handicap holding full member not necessarily at Stamford but at least two of the cards must be from the Stamford course. New handicaps are posted on the Club notice board.

It is important that members are aware of changing conditions with respect to H & C Competitions, temporary local rules, playing conditions and local rules(on back of scorecard and repeated on the course and visitors pages of this site).
  • Once an handicap has been obtained Full members are able to enter all competitions and five day members midweek competitions only.

Political

The day to day running of the commercial and sporting business of the Golf Club is conducted by three Honorary positions, Secretary, Treasurer and Subscription Secretary.

Commercial decisions are made after debate and vote by the council, who meet on the first Tuesday of every month. The Council consists of 16 members who each serve for three years, at which time they come up for re-election at the AGM by the full membership. The three honorary positions are chosen from nominations by the council for ratification also at the AGM.

The Council is presided over by The Captain who assumes the roll of Chairman of the council during his one year of office. The Vice Captain elect is selected from the membership by all the surviving past Captains at a meeting late in the calendar year and announced to the membership at 12.00am on Christmas Day. The Vice Captain is ratified by the full membership at the AGM, whereupon the previous Vice Captain assumes the role of Captain.

The day to day management of the club is conducted by the Honorary Secretary.

Recruitment and collection of subs is handled by the Honorary Subscriptions Secretary.

All financial considerations are managed by the Honorary Treasurer.

The major 4 divisions of the club, the management of Handicaps and Competitions, the upkeep of the course, the care of the clubhouse and the social organisation are conducted by sub committees under a chairman selected by the current Captain on his succession to the position.

The President gives his assistance and advice from his wide experience of Stamford Golf Club whenever it is required.

Contact a Sub Committee

As a fully paid up member you have the responsibility to act within the rules and traditions of the club and ensure that they are upheld by others on a day to day basis.
If you are witness to events acting contrary to the traditions of the club not only is it your responsibility but your duty to report such events to the appropriate authority. Also your comments, complaints and suggestions on how we may improve service to members would be welcomed at any time. You may contact any club official or address your comments direct to the council by visiting the contacts page using the link above.

Remember this is your club, it is, and always will be what you make it. If you feel strongly that things can be improved, you have the right to stand for election to the council at any AGM by submitting a nomination to the council proposed and seconded by two fully paid up members, before January the 6th of any year.
With your help we can make Stamford even better for us all.
